“I love you and am glad you are mine.”  I’m telling you . . . after 26 years of marriage, my heart still leaps when John says those words to me, and a smile effortlessly emerges.  Immediately, I desire to seize the opportunity to share the same loving words with him.  Why?  Because he loves me.  And I love Him.

But here’s the thing that’s been on my mind lately.  My God’s love for me surpasses any love I have ever known, and He, too, articulates His love for me, consistently reminding me through His Word and His care that I’m special to Him and that He’s glad that I’m His child.  Yet, do I immediately stop and articulate how much I love Him as I would do with John?

Unfortunately, the answer is . . . no, I do not. There it is – sincere intentions left unfulfilled.  But you know what?  I can easily correct that failure.  Though I’ve not been faithful in declaring my love for my Lord, I can purpose to daily tell Him how much I love Him and that I’m grateful to be His child.

“I love Him better every day.
I love Him better every day.
Close by His side,
I will abide.”

“I love Thee because Thou has first loved me
And purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree
I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow
If ever I loved Thee my Jesus ’tis now.”

“I love You, Lord
And I lift my voice
To worship You
Oh, my soul, rejoice.”

“I love you and am glad you are mine.”  Nope.  Never tire of hearing John speak those words, never tire of saying them to him in return.

Words of affirmation – words that should be expressed.  In the busyness of daily life, let’s seize every opportunity to express our love to our heavenly Father.  Why?  Because He loves us.  And we love Him.
