We’re thrilled to hear from Brittney Basalious this week! Be sure to stop by the contributors page to learn more about her.
The Lord has been bringing so much revelation to me about the real meaning of faith. I always believed as a child, proclaimed my faith in Christ, received baptism, etc. However, for years my “faith” seemed to stop there. Although, I would attend church and do “church things,’ I did not have the faith I have today.
James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
What is faith? Is faith simply believing? Is it an acknowledgment of the truth of Jesus Christ? Is faith agreeing with the Word of God and all that it withholds? I began questioning my faith in 2015 when I realized that I was dead in my sins, and I learned how could someone who lived so far apart from God’s ways, (although I truly did believe) one day spend eternity with Him.
I am so thankful that the Lord has described the faith that truly redeems, empowers, and saves us in His word. Although there are many references, we need to go no further than Hebrews to understand the kind of faith our God desires. Today, you may already know all I speak on; however, I want to encourage you, and myself to dig even deeper as we understand what faith truly means in the word of God.
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Within our relationship with Jesus, true devoted faith cannot ultimately be distinguished, or separated from a life of surrender and self-sacrifice. Through this relationship achieved through faith by grace, we are truly dead to sin, and free from its control. (Romans 6:1-18) Not only are we dead to sin, but we are also alive in Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. Becoming alive in Christ has given me a deep hunger to WALK out this salvation. I know I can no longer claim to “believe,” and not DO what He says. Not that I will always get it right, but the desire to do His will is so present, that I cannot escape it day, nor night.
Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned by God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
Now I understand that although my belief in Jesus was genuine, that is all it was. I believed; however, I needed faith to become adopted as a child of God. Noah is probably one of the greatest biblical examples of true faith. Noah had faith, which caused him to MOVE with fear.
Hebrews 11:4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it, he being dead yet speaketh.
Abel is another perfect example of the kind of faith our God desires. By faith, Abel OFFERED an excellent sacrifice. I want to encourage you dear child of God to engage in your faith. I want to push you, and myself to have the kind of faith that saves. Let His word arises in our spirit and work within us to have faith, and do the very will of God in our lives. I pray the power of The Holy Spirit of God would enable all those who read this to be filled once again with an overflow of the love of Christ, which enables us to fight in fait
