As children, we’re told “It’ll be worth the wait!” But, as adults, we sometimes struggle with delayed gratification. Life is chock-full of waiting, and it can tough to trust in the pause.
Yet, in a world of instant gratification, the norm is ranting at a 10-minute checkout wait, releasing the inner two-year-old via road rage, and pre-ordering fast (!) food. We must be intentional about waiting well.
What does Scripture teach? Psalm 27:14 says, “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” God repeated Himself to get our attention and gave us a three-step process:
- We wait on Him.
- We choose courage.
- He give HIS strength.
See, rewards come later, and God’s “wait” is always kind, purposeful, and good. He wants not only WHAT is best for us but also WHEN it’s best, too!
C’mon, as a kid, didn’t you just love the delicious anticipation of Christmas and birthdays, parties and summer vacation, family trips and after-you-eat-your-veggies dessert? The cliché “anticipation is half the fun” is true!
So, determine today to wait well, pleasing God, modeling maturity and inviting others to step into greater obedience. In God’s plan, it’s always worth the wait!
