Proverbs 3:5-6 are some of the most recognized and memorized verses in the Bible. How can we truly trust in a person that we do not know? I hope this short devotional will encourage you to get to know God better so that you can completely trust in Him. What a joy and peace trusting in God gives His children!

In 2019, I was privileged to teach a junior age class at my church where we studied the attributes of God’s greatness and goodness all year long. In 2020, our family was brought into the greatest trial of our lives. At the end of July 2020, my husband was diagnosed with and lost his eye to metastatic ocular melanoma.

Knowing Who God is by knowing His character is helping me to have peace in trusting God with the unknowns in my life.  In order to be able to trust someone, we need to know that person. The more we know God, the more confidence we can have in His character, and the more we are able to trust Him.

“Our God is so GREAT, so strong and so mighty!” This is a sweet song we teach our small children. How great is our God? Here are some attributes of God that help me fully trust Him:

Isaiah 55:8-9 tells us that God is greater than we are. In Psalm 145:3, we see that God’s greatness is such that we can never fully understand Him. In Malachi 3:6, God says, “I change not.” God’s immutability is part of what makes Him trustworthy. His inability to change means He will always treat us according to His perfect ways.

Psalm 18:30 says, “As for God, his way is perfect.” Jeremiah 32:17 was one of my favorite verses as a young girl. It teaches us that God is all-powerful: “Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee.”

It is impossible for anyone or anything to defeat His power or overthrow His authority. God can do anything and everything that is right to do, and everything God does is always right! Because of His greatness, He is worthy of my trust. What peace this brings me as I trust God’s hand in the trials that He allows in my life!

If you want to trust God more and experience the peace that trusting God brings, I encourage you to get to know the Lord better by studying His Word. Become fully confident that you can trust Him with all of your life and enjoy the peace that trusting our great God brings you.
