Devotional thoughts from Kimberly Grainger this week! She’s not new to the blog, but if you’ve not stopped by the contributors page already to learn more about her, you can do so today!

Our three sons are “motorheads.”   So is our model-gorgeous DIL (interestingly, the only one with mechanic skill).

They all love learning about cars: capabilities, stats, and cutting-edge features.

Me, I have a point-A-to-point-B philosophy about cars. If it gets me there and has A/C, I’m set.

This, naturally, drives them crazy.

They start explaining how superior this engine is to that or what the “0 to 60” speed is, yet all I hear is background noise. When we’re driving together, there’s the inevitable explosion of “look, look, you guys (direction or lane indicated)!!!  It’s a Maserati/Porsche/Tesla/Lamborghini (series of letters and numbers)!!!!”

I play along, but they’re genuinely stumped when I’m useless in the “Name Your Dream Car” game.

Maybe it’s because I’m happy with my ancient Camry.

Or, maybe it’s because I’ve never *revelation moment* actually done a test drive for a Maserati XL74Tz007 (not an actual model, just a demo of my vehicular ignorance).

See, I can’t miss what I’ve never had or wanted.

So, let’s apply this to our Jesus-journey. Once we “taste and see that the Lord is good”(Psalm‬ ‭34‬:‭8‬a), we’ll want MORE of Him!

I’ve relished years of “taste tests” of the Lord’s goodness and can affirm that it’s everywhere!  We’re wise to increase awareness of His generous kindness.

Let’s be as diligent to study God’s good grace as Graingers are to study cars: learning nuances, telling stories, praising superpowers.

He is worthy.

Too, there’s the concept of “reticular activator,” simplified: awareness increases notice.

For instance, driving a red minivan makes us easily spot other red minivans.

Do we often recognize God’s goodness because we’re aware of its abundance?

Do we tell others the beautiful stories (testimonies) of His grace?

Do we believe we’ll see His goodness in our lives? (“I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living” (‭‭Psalm‬ ‭27‬:‭13‬).

Let’s become passionate about Jesus in richer, deeper ways, praying not just for His blessings, but for more of HIM!

After all, that IS the greatest goodness: Jesus Himself, the richest treasure of all!
