Last night, my daughter Melody and I went for a walk to the park. As I was strolling her down the road, I thought, “Wow, the view looks way better from up here.” Then this verse came to me, “God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in Heavenly places” (Ephesians 2:6).
I was looking down at my baby girl in her stroller playing and really enjoying the view. Then I thought of the things I use to see in front of me when I was lost and without Christ. I thought of the needle, the drugs, and depression.
I was a prisoner seven years ago, walking hand-in-hand with the devil. I was a slave to drugs and sitting in the seat of sin.
Ephesians 2:6 really began to make sense to me in that moment. Living for Christ means I am literally sitting by His side. It is because I am seated in heavenly places with Him that I am able to maintain a relationship with my daughter, remain clean, attend to her needs, walk her to the park without thinking of my next high, and ultimately refuse my seat of sin, filth, and unrighteousness. I am free because I am seated with Christ.
Now the Lord is that spirit: and where the spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
– 2 Corinthians 3:17
The Bible says that we are a slave to what we serve in life, and there are only two things a human soul can be enslaved to. God intended us to be a slave to righteousness, but we have free will; we can choose to be a slave to sin.
Do you not know that if you present yourself to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one who you obey, either sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? – Romans 6:16
Let no one deceive you beloved sister of mine reading this, we serve sin, the devil, or we serve righteousness, Christ. The problem is us, we are not righteous. We need God Who created us from head to toe to intervein. We need Him living inside of us to change our heart. We need Him to make us like Him.
There is no other way to do God’s will apart from receiving His Holy Spirit to dwell inside of you, thus regenerating the heart and transforming to mind to see things how He does. To love how He loves. To act as He would act. To care about what He cares about. To live as He would live.
I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.
– Ezekiel 36:27
My prayer for anyone reading this and myself, Lord give us your Holy spirit and refresh us in Christ. Make us separated from this world and sold out to you. Let us know, walk in, and love your ways, in Jesus name.
