As I was praying to The Lord, in my spirit I heard, “Confidence.” I know that’s the thing I struggle with most, and some may not see it as a sin necessarily, but I’d like to show you how sneaky, and besetting this sin really is, which replaces the truth of who Jesus says we are in Him.

Our confidence comes from the Lord.

It’s fair to think, “How can I possibly have confidence in myself after x, y, and z?”We ALL have a past. We all have had failures, and we ALL fall short daily. What if there is a source of life, outside of ourselves that brings a confidence so daring that we can live out the very life God wrote in His eternal book for us?

Psalm 139:16

Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

Firstly, we must know who God says we are. The only way to know who we truly are in Christ is to have faith in what HE says. To have faith in what He says, we must be constant hearers of what He says, His words, and His heart for us.

Romans 10:17

So, faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

The bible proves to us that we are God’s workmanship, as He is intimately devoted, and invested in us. The word of God says that He actually rejoices over us. What does that even look like, I ask myself? Whatever it ends up looking like must be pretty amazing when I meditate on it. Why would He rejoice over me? All I can remember most days is who I was; however, He tells me He is rejoicing over me?

Zephaniah 3:17 The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

When the unending accusations pile in, the lack of confidence, and downright demonic oppression overwhelms my mind, I can hear my God say, “Who do I say you are?” “Will you believe my word, or your feelings?” There is a reason other biblical characters prayed the very same words I often pray, “Lord, restore my confidence in you so I can boldly live out the life you wrote in your book for me.”

Proverbs 3:26 – For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

Hebrews 10:35-36 – Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward.

When I experience a lack of confidence, and cower in fear of giving someone a word The Lord has given me, or sharing the Gospel, etc. The Lord has shown me in that moment sin has crept in as I seek self-confidence, and my feelings over who He says I am. His word says I am….

1 Peter 2:9: “But ye [are] a CHOSEN GENERATION, a ROYAL PRIESTHOOD, an HOLY NATION, a PECULIAR PEOPLE.

2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a NEW CREATURE: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become NEW.

Our confidence has got to be rooted in who HE says we are. Not who we, Satan or anyone else says we are. His word is overwhelming with encouragement of our proper standing in Christ. Lord, teach us to believe in faith who you say we truly are!
