This week we’re privileged to hear devotional thoughts from Brittney Basalious. Be sure to stop by the contributors page to learn more about her.
One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks (Romans 14: 5, 6).
As daughters of the living God, we all strive to hear from and obey the Holy Spirit in every direction of our lives. Personally, the Lord has been convicting me to trust Him in health decisions while relying on more homeopathic remedies. I have a sparked interest and desire to learn how the body can naturally heal itself under the right conditions.
As a mom of three, I find great challenges arise when one of my children gets sick. At times, there seems to be a great divide in what the doctor or others advise versus the research I’ve devoted endless hours toward in learning homeopathic remedies. I don’t know exactly why the Lord has me on this path, but I’ve come to realize that my conviction is not everyone’s and that everyone’s conviction is not mine. I also found myself desperately tying to prove myself and my choices to others who questioned them.
Dear sister in Christ, if the Lord has convicted you, shown you, proved Himself, and poured His plan out to you for a specific area in your life, you need not seek the approval of men. Proverbs 29:25 reminds us that “the fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.” We must not seek to have others understand nor conform to our convictions. There’s no need to seek approval from family, doctors, friends, etc. for what the Lord has commanded us to do.
There have been times my family has been excluded, mocked, criticized, and looked down upon for holding on to our convictions about health. It seems like such a silly thing to divide over, doesn’t it? The Devil will always try to divide brothers and sisters in Christ over non-salvational issues, and personal convictions. I want to deeply encourage you if you’re going through anything like I am, whether it be a medical conviction, a holiday conviction, which day you set aside for the Lord, etc. -whatever you do, do it unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of your faith.
I’ve learned to be quick to listen, slow to speak, hold back my feelings and heart issues, and just hear others out when they have complete opposite convictions of mine. The Word of God is so gracious to go into detail about this topic of opposing convictions, instructing us to give one another Grace while we follow our convictions unto The Lord. If our very own brother, or sister in Christ holds to a conviction, we should encourage them in it – not tear them down with conflicting viewpoints and make them feel less than, unworthy, or belittle them for following their conscience toward God.
May I be of great encouragement to you today to put your brother or sister in Christ above yourself, your feelings, and the hurts they may have encompassed you with and hold on tight to this scripture. We are not once told to “be right” in scripture but to esteem one another better than our very own selves.
Philippians 2:3 “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.”
