We’re thrilled to hear devotional thoughts from Pamela Polanco this week! You can learn more about her on our contributors page.

My husband and I are preparing to return home after spending a few months on the road. As missionaries, much of our life is spent overseas, so there are things we don’t always get to do where we live. Recently, we prayed what seemed like a very small and unimportant request: “Lord, could we attend one more baseball game before we return to our field?”

To many, that may sound like a silly prayer. After all, with so many greater needs in the world, why ask God about something like a baseball game? But I believe God cares about every aspect of our lives. Nothing is too small for Him to notice, and nothing is too big for Him to handle.

Our God is infinite while our minds are so very finite. When we bring our requests before Him—whether great or small—He is able to do far more than we could ever envision.

A few days later, I received a text from a friend. “My husband and I got two extra tickets to the game on Saturday. Would you guys like to come with us? That Friday, she handed me the tickets. And you know what? They were seven rows from the bullpen, seats 1 and 2, with a great view of the game! As if that were not enough, we were also given a parking pass right near the entrance.

How much did we pay for these blessings? Nothing. They were quite a gift!

Through our friend, God gave us the best seats we have ever had at a baseball game, a parking pass, and wonderful fellowship. Our friends had no idea we had prayed for this. Only God knew. And He didn’t just give us what we asked for—He gave us more.

Paul wrote in Ephesians 3:20–21, “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.”

That night at the ballpark wasn’t just about baseball to us. It was about being reminded that our God is not limited by our imaginations. We pray for something simple, and He can unfold an answer beyond what we dared to picture. We ask with finite words, but He responds with infinite grace and love.

He cares for all the details of our lives, whether we consider them big or small. And often, He does more than we ask, to remind us of who He is.

When these moments happen—and I believe they happen often—let’s not forget to give Him glory for His grace.

So, does your petition seem like a silly request? I can assure you it is not. God cares about every aspect of our lives. And He is able to answer in ways we simply cannot imagine.
