We’re looking forward to hearing devotional thoughts from Brittney Basalious this week! Be sure to stop by the contributors page to learn more about her.
Freedom in the Bible isn’t just about physical liberation, autonomy, or independence, it’s also about spiritual deliverance. I remember accepting Christ as my savior; however, my life still deeply resembled the world.
I struggled with pornography and sexual sins mainly.
“Lord, why am I not receiving freedom; I hate doing this,” I would cry out in prayer.
We all know of the account of Joshua in the Bible. “The Lord encouraged Joshua, saying, “Do not be afraid of them; I have given them into your hand. Not one of them will be able to withstand you” (Joshua 10:8). As Joshua faced a raging battle, he realized the only way to victory was a supernatural miracle. He needed more daylight. I don’t know about you, but if I knew I needed the sun to stay out longer to complete God’s will in a situation in my life, I would give up right there.
A miracle stemmed from Joshua’s absolute trust in God’s power and promise (Joshua 10:13-14). In an astounding act of faith, he spoke to the Lord in front of all Israel: “Sun, stand still over Gibeon, and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon” (Joshua 10:12). The Lord gave Joshua a promise; He told him that He had given the enemy into Joshua’s hand. It was already finished, Joshua believed the word of The Lord.
It’s already done for you, sister. It is finished, complete, and yours! What do you want victory over today? Are you struggling as I was in sexual sin? Maybe your struggles aren’t quite like mine, but you’re experiencing a root of bitterness growing within the garden of your soul, and you are deeply convicted. Whatever it is, The Lord has promised us VICTORY over it!
2 Corinthians 3:17
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
After genuine repentance, and believing what God’s word said, even though I did not feel holy, righteous, or free, that He promised I was. He promised that there is freedom where He is. I simply had to truly believe. I started to realize that His Word cannot lie. I started trusting His word over my thoughts/feelings/sins/struggles/strongholds.
Another example of where God did the absolute impossible is when Sara truly believed what God promised.
Hebrews 11:11-16
Through faith also Sara herself received the strength to conceive seed and was delivered of a child when she was past age because she judged him faithful who had promised.
I don’t know where you’re at, what your struggle is, or what you’re going through right now. However, I do know how I received true freedom, and I can guarantee you today that you have the same access as I do to His promises. The Lord Jesus can and will set you free, and all we are to do is truly believe. Open the word of God, search the scriptures on freedom from bondage, and believe what He has already promised you. It is finished; it’s already yours. Belief in the promises God gave us in scripture is the key to your deliverance.
