Abide. “To remain, to dwell.” As I contemplate what it means to abide in Christ, I find it simply overwhelming that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, desires that I – with all my many failures – abide in Him!
I believe our heart’s desire truly is to abide in Christ, to “remain or dwell” in Him; however, far too often we allow our minds to become distracted by the noise on around us – calls to make, projects to prepare, dinner to cook, errands to run, books to read.
Though we learn about Him as we read our Bible, study our ladies’ devotional books, and listen to Christ-centered music, are we truly abiding in Him? Do we on a daily basis “remain or dwell” in Him, or do we falter because we are instead distracted and without direction?
Abiding in Christ requires that we be intentional with our time, our thoughts, and our purpose. Are we doing that? Are we tuning out the noise to hear the voice of our Savior? Truth is – I know that I can do better. Maybe you know that, too.
And we can. We can choose to abide in Christ, motivated by the realization that a fruitful Christian life rests contingent upon our choosing to abide in our Savior. So what are we waiting for?
Let’s grab our Bibles + lattes and walk together hand-in-hand . . . endeavoring to abide in Christ and find rest in Him.
Very true! I am excited to be a part of this!
Anjolie, I am thrilled to have you here. 🙂
I definitely desire the peace that comes with abiding in Christ. Thank you for sharing this, Mrs. Edmonds;)
Lainey, what an opportunity we all have to walk in peace daily through our Savior! You are quite welcome. 🙂
Mrs. Edmonds, I love your thoughts, but I wanted to share how I best fulfill the command to abide with Christ in case others find it helpful.
As humans, we tend to want to “do” something to abide with Christ. There is nothing wrong with that, but I have found doing nothing is the best way to abide in Christ.
I enjoy reading scripture and then sitting quietly, with all distractions turned off, while I allow Christ to enter my thoughts and abide with me. I may ask Him a question about the scripture, but then I am quietly listening for His thoughts to enter my mind.
I hope your readers find this helpful.
So excited that you’ve shared this!
Kammie, I am quite excited that you are along for the journey! 🙂
What a beautiful introduction to an exciting journey you’re inviting us to join you on! Thank you for studying this out and sharing it with us.
It’s my tendency to “visit” with the LORD, throughout the day- that’s part of it, but how much better to abide. Looking forward to learning more!
Heather, it was not until this past year that I seriously contemplated what abiding in Christ really meant. John soon directed me in my Bible study, and I have been daily overwhelmed by God’s goodness to me. It is through that Bible study that I truly began finding rest in Him.
You are quite welcome. I am thrilled to have you here. 🙂
Once again you remind me of the importance of being intentional in my walk in faith.
What a pleasure to have you join, Sophia! We can encourage each other to remain intentional in our walk with the Lord!

I believe you are good to go, Heather! 🙂
Thanks for your perspective about abiding. It is so true that we can allow our minds to be distracted by all the noise around us. I never really thought about that if I am not careful, those distractions can actually happen during Bible Study, or reading devotions or listening to praise music! Even though these are all good things, If I am not taking the time to intentionally be still, to dwell, to remain and listen for His voice in the midst of these things, I am not truly abiding in Him, but just checking off something on my to do list.
Jill, you’re quite welcome! Intentionallly dwelling and intentionally listening certainly require us to tune out the “noise” and focus our attention solely on resting in Him.
