Hey friend, let’s be honest—life gets busy, messy, and sometimes just plain hard. Between laundry, appointments, work, relationships, and trying to keep up with everything else, it’s easy to forget to pause and be thankful. But here’s the thing: living every day with a thankful heart isn’t just a sweet idea — it’s a powerful way to live.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 plainly commands, “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” Every thing. Not just the good moments when the sun is shining and the kids are behaving. But even in the stress, the setbacks, and yes, the burnt dinners.
Thankfulness shifts our focus. It pulls our eyes off what we lack and sets them on the One who never fails, and it reminds our hearts that even in chaos, God is still good. That’s not always easy—but it’s always worth it.
I love the old hymn “Count Your Blessings.” You remember it?
“Count your blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.”
Isn’t that true? The more we name what we’re grateful for, the more we begin to notice just how faithful God has been. That daily choice to be thankful changes our hearts. It softens the bitterness. It quiets anxiety. It brings peace into places we didn’t even realize were restless.
Thankfulness also guards our hearts.  “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).
Did you catch that? With thanksgiving. God links our peace with a grateful heart. That means when life feels overwhelming, the antidote isn’t just to pray—it’s to pray with thanks. Even if all you can muster is, “Lord, thank You that You’re here.” That’s enough.
Think of the hymn “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.” So many of us have sung that through tears, holding onto that one powerful line, “Morning by morning new mercies I see.” Every day, fresh mercy. That’s something to be thankful for even when yesterday was rough.
So whatever your day looks like today — choose thankfulness. Maybe write down three things you’re grateful for. Whisper a prayer of thanks when you feel stress creeping in. Hum a hymn while you fold laundry. These small acts of gratitude build a life of deep, steady joy.
Let’s live with hearts that say, “Thank You, Lord,” even before the breakthrough. Because even now, He’s working. He’s present. And He’s worthy of thanks.
