It’s a pleasure to have devotional thoughts from Pamela Polanco this week. If you don’t know her, take a moment and learn a bit about her on our contributors page.
My husband and I had prayed for seven years for a baby, and month after month, we met with disappointment. Then, one day, those two pink lines appeared on a pregnancy test. We were overwhelmed with joy. Amazed. It was the most euphoric moment of our lives!
But that bliss was fleeting. Soon, doubt crept in, whispering, “Surely not us.” Not after such a long wait. Honestly, it felt too good to be real, and deep down, I feared something would go wrong. I was waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Sadly, I spent my miracle pregnancy anxiously waiting for disaster. Instead of reveling in God’s faithfulness, I braced myself for loss. Fear often overshadowed the great victory the Lord had given us, and what should have been the most beautiful, dreamy season of my life became one marked by worry—I immersed myself in uncertainty instead of resting in the unwavering nature of God.
Looking back now, I realize that while my pregnancy wasn’t perfect, over time, I learned to surrender my fears and embrace trust. Yes, many of the things I worried about did happen—but they were beyond my control. My anxiety didn’t prevent them; it only drained my joy.
Corrie Ten Boom once said, “Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow. It empties today of its strength.” How true that is! We often fret over things that may never come to pass, and even if they do, they remain outside our control.
Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:34, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” This verse has helped me let go of my fears. I am so grateful that the Lord’s Word meets us exactly where we are and challenges us to trust Him more.
What if, instead of letting worry consume us, we chose to trust? What if we basked in God’s goodness rather than in the uncertainty of life? Today, I encourage you to trust God. When fear and doubt creep in, anchor your heart in Him. Rest in the truth that He is good and faithful.
Are you waiting for the other shoe to drop? Then let me encourage you to re-channel your heart and mind to the One who holds tomorrow.
Life is sweeter when our minds and hearts rest in Jesus!
Thank you, this was an encouragement!
You’re quite welcome, Michael! I’m glad it was an encouragement.
