Some days it’s hard to get up. It’s hard to want to face the day. It’s overwhelming to do what lies before.  

Some moments it’s frustrating when things don’t seem to have changed. When hard things have been faced long enough yet aren’t gone. When they might never go away.  

It’s easy to want to run. To want to hide, freeze, turn to anything that will bring comfort, relief, security, and peace. 

But in all this – in the dark and sometimes daily moments of life, there is only one real answer. One stability to cling to. One hope that can never fail. And He hasn’t gone away. 

And not only is He not gone, but He also is not frustrated with us, even if we may be with ourselves. He is the perfect, holy, and almighty God, Who placed every mountain where it is and has complete control over the mighty seas, yet knows, thinks of, and understands us – even as the weak and faltering people we are.  

That mighty God chooses to walk with us and to speak words of truth and comfort to us that no other could promise. 

“But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. 

When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee” (Isa. 43:1-2, 4b). 

What He says to us is always true; yet days may still be dark, and things may still be hard. And maybe that will change, now, or in time. But sometimes it may not.  

And even then, He is still good. And even then, He is still God. Even then, He is still walking with us, calling us His, and holding our hands as His precious children. And therefore, because of Him, His unchanging character, His Cross that bought us a future with Him forever, His gentle presence that will never leave or forsake us, we can walk on with Him. And we can hope in His light, even when the days may still be dark. “For I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God” (Ps. 42:11b).
